In this epic 2-month course, you’ll learn singer-songwriter guitar by creating a strong foundation. Why get bad playing habits that stop you from your full potential when you can get it right from the very start?
Play guitar like a boss, don’t look silly on stage fumbling with barre chords and memorizing everything by rote.
Learn the guitar...
with proper technique (great tone comes from relaxed technique and good posture, do you know how?)
harmonically (fingerstyle strumming and groovy picking patterns)
melodically (learn scales, arpeggios and melodies that sound good on the uke)
What is the course format?
We meet for a total of 4 classes.
Each class is a 1-on-1 private lesson.
Each class lasts 2 hours. You get 8 hours of lessons in total.
And, in the process, you’ll understand:
Rhythm Guitar Basics... so you’ll know how to groove when you accompany yourself
Singer-Songwriter Guitar Harmony... so you know the difference between how to sound more like Bob Dylan or Elliot Smith or Jason Mraz
Fingerstyle Patterns and Grooves… so you don’t just strum all the time but can break into some cool fingerstyle sounds
Song Studies... so you can connect all the things you learn into real songs and even your own songs
...and be on the way to being an awesome modern singer-songwriter!

30 min - Singer Songwriter Guitar Harmony I - Essential Chords, open chord shapes and introduction to the CAGED system of chords
5 min - BREAK
25 min - Fingerstyle Patterns and Grooves I - Basic Fingerstyle Patterns & Posture
30 min - Song Study I
Class 2
30 min - Rhythm Guitar Basics II - 8th note strumming patterns and folk strumming basics
30 min - Singer Songwriter Guitar Harmony II - Variations to basic open chord shapes and how to sound more modern
5 min - BREAK
25 min - Fingerstyle Patterns and Grooves II - Bossa nova grooves and pop variations
30 min - Song Study II
[2nd Month]
Class 3
30 min - Rhythm Guitar Basics III - Folk Strumming continued
30 min - Singer Songwriter Guitar Harmony III - Exploring moody and melancholic minor key harmonies
5 min - BREAK
25 min - Fingerstyle Patterns and Grooves III - Introduction to Travis Picking
30 min - Song Study III
Class 4
30 min - Rhythm Guitar Basics IV - An introduction to triplets and 16th note grooves
30 min - Singer Songwriter Guitar Harmony IV - Jazz Harmony Basics
5 min - BREAK
25 min - Fingerstyle Patterns and Grooves IV - Backbeat grooves and intro to funky fingerstyle guitar grooves
30 min - Song Study IV
Requirements:
This course is meant for singer-songwriters and singers who play guitar to accompany themselves. This course is also useful for guitarists who work or session for singers.
NOTE: The classes will be personalized to your current playing ability.
For more advanced players, you will learn detailed approach to rhythm, tone and grooves.
For beginner players, we will build a strong foundation for your technique and musical vocabulary.
Basically, you will rock and sound better at the end of this course!
